MATCHSTICK PUZZLE

These matchstick puzzles are a fun way to reinforce Roman numerals while challenging students’ problem solving skills. Getting students to write out important dates in their life in Roman numerals is a fun way of consolidating the concept. This could also lead into a fun lesson about number systems around the world in the past and present including how the number system we use today came to be.

It also links nicely to examinations of the decimal (base 10) system that we use, and how it compares to other systems like the ones used for pounds or miles.
