Encourage your children to think about the words and language they use and the impact it has on others. These THINK posters are a colourful way to remind them to THINK before they speak.

Learning to communicate is part of growing up, and it’s important for children to develop an awareness of how their words can affect others.

As teachers, we should remind students that words are powerful and when used correctly they can make a real positive impact on a person.

Using an acronym of THINK, these posters aim to encourage children to ‘think before you speak’. They ask the questions – Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? Is it kind? When challenged to think about these questions, children will become more conscious of how they express themselves and how their words may be received.

The set of posters comes in 5 different colourful designs and will look great in any classroom, learning area or even a pinboard at home. They will act as a visual reminder and could even be referred to when discussing breakdowns in communication between your students.

How to use the Lizard Learning THINK Posters?

  1. Simply hit download and print them out. You can print them in the standard A4 size or choose to enlarge them to A3 if you need something a little bigger.
  2. Next, introduce the THINK acronym to your children. You could do this as a class during circle time or maybe during a whole school assembly.
  3. Discuss what each part of the acronym means. Maybe you can think of some examples together. Try to keep these examples positive and avoid dwelling on things that have been said in the past.
  4. Finally, once children understand the purpose of the posters, pin them up in visible areas around your setting. The posters will act as visual reminders for children as they go about their day.

Handy Hint: If you want your posters to last longer or want to display them outside on the playground, laminate them first. This will protect them from getting torn or weathered.

Extension activities and fun ideas:

  • Celebrating success in schools is common practice, and it’s important to acknowledge all achievements, not just the academic ones.

Communicating in a kind, respectful and purposeful way is a VERY important life skill and a big achievement for children. So why not celebrate the moments when students have communicated successfully?

You could introduce a ‘Communicator of the Week’ award. The winner will be someone who has used ‘THINK’ to make a positive impact with their words. And you could even ask your students to nominate their classmates as this will encourage them to think about the topic further.

  • If this acronym has worked for your class, the next time you face a challenge or problem ask your students to create their own acronym. It could be one relating to kindness, being a supportive friend or looking after the school environment. The options are endless!
