Who Knew UNO Could Be So Much Fun!

Who knew Uno
Hours of fun was had in my family with UNO Cards. As I researched this worldwide phenomena, who knew that UNO could be used in so many varied ways; a tattoo on someone’s body I think takes the cake; oh and speaking of cakes, check those out too!

Ideas for different ways to use UNO CARDS in and outside of the classroom.

Not only did I find so many ways that people love to incorporate UNO in some way into their lives, I enjoyed discovering that different families play by different rules too. Was it always all-in-war for you too when playing with other families to have them play your way?’ One card game = so many emotions!

I don’t want to be caught in any inner-family-UNO-RULES-war, so here is the link to check out the UNO OFFICIAL website. There is a video explaining the rules too ~

As you keep reading some of my top ideas for ways to use UNO CARDS in and outside of the classroom, you’ll see the one big rule that many have tried but UNO OFFICIAL will disqualify every time!! Keep reading to find out what it is.

I hope you enjoy all the fun, wacky, outrageous and inspirational ways to bring this fun educational game into your life and classroom.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

A great idea for the red envelope given to children for prosperity and good luck at Chinese New Year is adding a deck of UNO cards to fill the envelope in addition to the traditional offering of money.

Students love making the red envelope in the classroom to celebrate this time. It’s available here inside the Lizard Learning Club PLUS Membership plus many more activities to celebrate Chinese New Year with your kids.

To see the activities in more detail, follow on Facebook and Instagram and scroll to see inside pages and activities for your students to learn and enjoy.

CLASSROOM FUN

UNO also has the classroom exercise done. At least 15 exercises to kick off with using the 2020 Workout images below. Thanks UNO for the great starter prompts. Your students can brain storm more exercises as they become comfortable and familiar with this class routine.

BOOKWEEK

Book Week is always so much fun, however it does tend to get a bad wrap for creating a little stress and upheaval in a teacher’s life. I wouldn’t know why?!

I guess UNO isn’t exactly ‘reading’ as Book Week would suggest but why not go against the crowd and dress-up with your own style and theme. As long as you can justify the outfit then go for it. Going as a pack of UNO CARDS is as good as done.

We still can’t play UNO without knowing how to read; SKIP, REVERSE, WILD and DRAW 2 so it’s teaching our students that reading is important across all areas of our lives. It wouldn’t be much fun sitting out a game of UNO because you didn’t take the time to learn to read!!

BOOK WEEK IDEASCLASS THEME

Using the UNO IT idea, there are heaps of ways a teacher could include UNO as a class theme or as a one off poster like this one.

Teachers write introduction letters to their students over the holidays. The letter from the teacher includes get-to-know-me facts sent to the student’s homes in the holidays which is meant to excite students for the coming year ahead.

It’s really cool for students to receive these letters from their teacher for two reasons. Firstly, who receives letters in the mail anymore and secondly, the teacher knows where I live?!

Imagine writing a letter home that uses the UNO THEME like the picture below. It would definitely surprise, delight and make everybody laugh.

UNO IT, I have gone WILD to know you’re in my classroom next year. Can we SKIP the holidays and start school!! I can’t wait to begin teaching you this year and learning all about your favourite things.

GIFT IDEAS

UNO cards are a super cheap gift idea for student presents any time of year. Not that teachers should ever be expected to buy gifts for their students but it’s what we love to do. I don’t believe we are ever going to stop being so generous, kind and always giving back to our kids. It’s just who teachers are.

GREAT GIFT GIVING IDEA

ULTIMATE UNO FAN

And I did say in the opening paragraph that things get rather wacky with UNO. This is a true die hard UNO FAN. As the post says, this is commitment 100%.

DEDICATED UNO FAN

STACKING CARDS. NOT ALLOWED!

Wait! What?! This isn’t allowed?! There is no fun in this rule UNO.  Who hasn’t used numerous Draw 2 and Draw 4 cards to ramp up the fun (or angst) in a friendly game of UNO?  You know how it goes; you’re playing with family and friends (our house, our rules) and some unfortunate person ends up having to pick up 18 cards because of the Draw 2 / Draw 4 pile on.

I need to create a hashtag #unochangethedrawfourrule. Who is with me?!  I know you’ve tried it too!!

NO STACKING ALLOWED?!

AND FINALLY

SWEET TREATS

As I conclude this blog we have seen all the fun of UNO through make-up, nails, math games, tattoos, Book Week themes, gift ideas and more, but what better way to end the blog on the sweetest UNO idea of them all and that’s to make a grand towering UNO themed celebration cake.

This will get any teacher’s sweet-tooth craving a bite. Now that you’ve seen this blog, who’s going to play a UNO game again soon?!

I’ve certainly been hit with the UNO bug after my UNO research. I’m going out to buy a shopping cart full of UNO games and giving them away as presents. Anything to bring more people together around a card game and off the phones and tablets.

Number 6 Activity

When children are introduced to numbers, they are often first taught to count orally. Following this comes numeral recognition. This is when students are able to link a number’s written shape to its spoken number name. The next step after this, is for learners to...
